Detection and alarm systems are automatic systems which continuously or at intervals monitor a specific area and signal the occurrence of a fire by means of acoustic and visual alarm devices, suitably located. These systems also include manually operated “alarm points” distributed throughout the monitored area.
The UNI EN 54-1 European standard distinguishes between fire detection systems and fire alarm systems, the functions of which can still be combined in a single system.
It assigns the detection systems the function of “detecting a fire in the shortest possible time and providing indications so that adequate actions can be taken”. On the other hand, fire alarm systems are assigned the function of signaling, by optical and/or acoustic means, the occupants of a building the possibility of “being subject to fire risk”.
